Oologah-Talala School Superintendent Max Tanner issued the following statement at 4:24 p.m. Thursday in response to citizen comments and social media traffic:

“The Oologah School District takes the safety of its students very seriously and does everything it can to provide a safe learning environment.  The District recently learned of allegations of inappropriate contact between a student and an employee.  The District immediately notified law enforcement of the allegations and the District is currently cooperating with law enforcement.  The staff member is on administrative leave while this matter is being investigated.  The District will not comment further on this incident because of the ongoing criminal investigation and confidentiality rights of the parties involved.”

Jessica Brown, public information director for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, told the Leader late Thursday:
“We are investigating the allegations. We have a couple of agents at the school today interviewing students and faculty.
“The people who are there are part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
“They do specialize in computer forensics. I can’t say specifically yet if (computer forensics) is involved in this case, but it usually is when you are talking about children like this.
“This investigation is centered at the High School.”
Brown said she could not provide any additional information on the employee or the student or students affected.
