A two-alarm fire Sunday destroyed a house and any proof that it might also have been a meth lab.
“(It) burned so completely we can’t prove it was a meth lab.
“We got called out to do a meth lab investigation. The problem is they can’t verify for sure there was a meth lab because it was pretty much destroyed in the fire,” Rogers County Undersheriff Jon Sappington said.
Two off-duty firefighters, Northwest Fire Lt. Josh Copeland and a Verdigris Fire officer, rescued two people who were inside the home at 420 Rd. and Oklahoma 88.
The firefighters had been passing by when they saw the blaze, called in a detailed report at 4:21 p.m., and rescued the occupants, said Northwest Chief Mat Shockley and Capt. John Bortner, the on-scene commander.
Bortner arrived minutes later, found flames had already broken through about one-third of the roof, and called a second alarm at 4:29 p.m.
He also asked for mutual aid from the Claremore Fire Department.
At the height of the blaze, Northwest Fire had two engines, three tankers, a squad and a brush truck manned by 15 firefighters battling the blaze.
Claremore sent a tanker with three firefighters, and OTEMS sent two units with a total of four medics bringing the total manpower on scene to 22 plus the two off-duty fire officers who made the rescue.
